If you have a community that is open to the public, one way to spread the word about your community is to allow your users to share content from the community to their social media platforms.

If you enable social media sharing, users can tell their networks about the community, or about a specific challenge or idea.

  • Understanding social sharing in Crowdicity

  • Enabling social media sharing

  • Adding a social sharing icon

Understanding social sharing in Crowdicity

Social sharing is only available if you have an Open (public) community.

When you have turned this feature on, users will see the option to share content with social media via buttons at the side of the page:

If users click on one of the icons, they will be asked for permission for Crowdicity to pass information to that social media platform on their behalf. Users may have to provide their social media log in details at this stage, they will only need to do this once for each network.

When Crowdicity has been given permission to share information with the social network, the user will be able to edit their post before it goes live on their social media feed.

Enabling social media sharing

To turn on the social media sharing feature:

1. Go to Community settings in the Crowd Management menu and click on the Access & Privacy tab.

2. Click the relevant button to Enable social media sharing.

3. Scroll down the page to click Save changes when you have finished.

Adding a social sharing icon

If you have turned on the social sharing feature, it's a good idea to add a social sharing icon; this is the image that will be shown on social networks when users share content from your community.

The image does not need to be a specific size, but we recommend that it is a square image and that it's good quality (ie. high resolution, not blurry).

Good to know

If users share an idea that has an image, the idea image will be used in place of the social sharing icon.

To upload a sharing logo:

1. Go to Community settings in the Crowd Management menu and click on the Access & Privacy tab.

2. Click the Upload Logo button, next to Sharing Logo. This will open the file library window.

3. Select an image that you have already uploaded and click Save choice.
