Moderators can manage ideas in a challenge, including editing them and applying idea status labels, but an important function of the moderator is to approve ideas that have been posted to the challenge or have been flagged as possibly inappropriate by other users. For more information about the moderator role generally, please see our guide to the Moderator Role.

In community settings, there are two features related to moderation that you can enable or disable for your community.

In this article:

  • Require all ideas to have moderator approval

  • Hide ideas that are pending moderation

Require all ideas to have moderator approval

To retain full control over which ideas are visible in your community, you can turn on a feature that means that all new ideas must be approved by a moderator; when posted they will be flagged as 'Pending moderator attention' and an email notification will be sent to the challenge moderators.

To turn on this feature:

1. Go to Community Settings in the Crowd Management menu and click on the Moderation tab.

2. The first option in this tab, 'New ideas' allows you to turn this feature on or off.

3. Click Save Changes at the bottom of the page, any ideas posted from that point will require moderator approval.

Hide ideas that are pending moderation

If you would like to hide any ideas that are pending moderation, either because they have been reported by users or because you specified that all new ideas require moderation, then this is also a feature that you can turn on in community settings. When this feature is enabled, any ideas that are pending moderator attention will not be visible to users, only moderators will be able to see them.

To turn on this feature:

1. Go to Community Settings in the Crowd Management menu and click on the Moderation tab.

2. The second option in this tab, ' Pending ideas' allows you to turn this feature on or off.

3. Click Save Changes at the bottom of the page, from that point any ideas that require moderator attention will not be visible to users.
